Ah 2016. Let’s be honest – it’s been a pretty dire year and one that most people will be glad to see the back of.
With awful happenings around the globe – wars, terror attacks, an abundance of celebrity deaths and more – it’s not surprising that we’ll be wishing 2016 a big fat ‘Good Riddance’ on the 31st December.
We’ve also had our fair share of issues at home, ranging from family problems, illnesses and bereavements to Lucie’s friend being involved in a serious hit and run incident as they walked home together a few weeks ago.
However, from a personal perspective, 2016 hasn’t been all bad. Here are some of my favourite parts:
We Got Married
The biggest event in 2016 for Adam and I was, of course, our wedding day. On 12th October, I married the love of my life in New York City and became Mrs Valentine. We spent a whole week enjoying adventures and making life-long memories together. The reception at Chester Zoo allowed us to celebrate with our loved ones and begin our next chapter in style!
My Sister Got Married
In April 2016, my younger sister married my new brother-in-law in a beautiful ceremony at Williamson Park, Lancaster, surrounded by friends and family. Not only did she look absolutely stunning, but watching them say their vows to one another was one of the most emotive, sincere moments I’ve witnessed to date. They also know how to host a brilliant party!
My Baby Sister Got Engaged
On Christmas Day 2016, my baby sister (I say ‘baby’ sister – she’s 21 years old!) got asked a very important question as her partner got down on one knee just before they tucked into Christmas dinner. Of course, she said yes and the two of them are now happily engaged. I cannot wait for the impending flurry of wedding planning and dress shopping!
My Neice Was Born
If you follow me on social media, then you’ll have already seen a picture of the gorgeous little pudding that is my newborn niece! Hollie-Grace made her (slightly early) appearance in December 2016 and became the latest addition to our little family. I finally got to meet her when she was five days old and fell head over heels in love.
In June 2016, I embarked on another journey. I found myself uninspired and unfulfilled in my previous accounts based role, so made the leap into brand new territory and began working as a content writer/social media manager. It turns out that this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and I finally feel like I’ve found my niche.
So what about you? What positives will you be taking away from the slightly bizarre year of 2016?
