The Weekend Post | Baby Shower At Liberty Cake Company

After a chaotic few months in the Valentine household, we are slowly beginning to get back to some form of normality again. I couldn’t wait for the weekend to roll around so I could catch up on some precious sleep (and housework, although I wasn’t too excited about that one…)

Friday was chill night. Adam’s new copy of ‘Skyrim’ had arrived so I knew that I’d pretty much lost him for the week and I ended up falling asleep fully clothed at 8.30pm! I did manage to sleep for over 12 hours solid though and have been feeling extremely drained of late, so it was clearly much needed.

On Saturday, Adam headed to North Wales for the day to see family and I stayed home in a vain effort to restore some sort of order in our humble adobe. We still hadn’t unpacked properly from our trip to New York and the kitchen was groaning under the weight of dirty pots and overflowing laundry baskets.

I packed up the wedding decor, stored it away in the cellar (40 meters of floral bunting anyone?) and actually felt a little bit sad that the celebrations are over. We’re now planning our next weekend away; I’m debating between a Christmas-themed break in either York, Bath or Chester. Do you have any other recommendations?

We received so many thoughtful gifts from our wedding reception last weekend, including several John Lewis vouchers, so I spent a little while online, fawning over Le Creuset kitchenware before realising that adulthood has well and truly set in. Since when did I get so giddy over posh pots and pans?!

Halloween had been completely overshadowed this year so we didn’t do any pumpkin carving or even decorate the house. We did however manage to make a batch of these yummy chocolate orange truffles and vowed to host a big Halloween shindig next year!

Sunday was family day. My baby sister ‘H’ (she’s 21 to be fair…) is currently 7 months pregnant, due just a few days before Christmas. I am stupidly excited about meeting my brand new niece soon and even getting a little bit broody myself! Maybe it’s time to get another rescue cat, eh?

Our Mum had arranged a surprise baby shower for ‘H’ at one of my favourite places; Liberty Cake Company in Bury, Lancashire. Adam and I make a trip this hidden gem at least once a month for tea and scones.

As you guys know, I adore a classic, British afternoon tea and this was no exception. Consisting of freshly made sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, lemon meringue cupcakes, tiffin, chocolate covered strawberries, various cheesecakes and mini Victoria sponges, it was the perfect Sunday treat.

I don’t get to spend as much time with my Mum or siblings as I’d like and even the kids joined us for this particular outing, which made it a very rare occasion indeed! Perhaps it was the lure of cake that tempted them to venture outdoors.
