Wedding season is upon us again and most of us have at least one or two special days to attend over the summer months. Our record high was being invited to no less than nine weddings and two christenings back in 2013, so you can imagine the amount of clothes shopping involved.
Along with expense of gifts, accommodation and travel, finding inspiration for fresh new looks can become tiring and there’s only so many times I can get away with wearing the same dress in our small social circle.
Simply Be contacted me recently to introduce their range of occasion dresses and asked if I’d like to get involved by choosing an outfit for myself. I’ll be honest, my initial assumption was that they cater for plus-sizes starting at around a size 18 (UK) so I wasn’t sure that I’d be the right candidate for this particular collaboration.
It turns out that I was wrong: they actually start from a size 12 (UK) and have an array of beautiful items by various brands available online.
As a wedding guest, I often find it difficult to choose my attire for the day (Yes, I’m aware that the bride may be having a similar dilemma too, on a slightly bigger scale) with my style being a little more alternative and having an intense dislike for most pastel colours: even my own wedding dress was super simple. I also have a classic hourglass shape so being just 5ft tall with a 32FF bust often makes finding clothes that fit properly a rather laborious task.
Despite knowing deep down that I possibly already own more pretty dresses than I can wear in my lifetime (three wardrobes full is normal, right?), they are undoubtedly my Achilles heel and, alongside cats, I tend to go weak at the knees when one happens to catch my eye.
Alice In Wonderland is something that has always featured in my home, fashion and reading habits from a very young age. When I was six years old, I even won a fancy dress competition for my Alice costume! (thanks mum). So when I spotted this quirky circle dress with a familiar tea-cup, red rose and rabbit-themed print, I knew it was the one for me. Teaming it up some glamorous glitter ombre stilettos, I think I managed to rock this particular look rather well, don’t you agree?
The sweetheart neckline and wide straps give a nice cleavage, without being too revealing, the flattering flared skirt skims over my hips and the statement polka dot belt helps to enhance my waist. The dress is genuinely comfortable enough to wear all day long and I love the way it ‘swishes’ when I move (I took great delight in twirling around every few minutes to make it ‘swish’ even more).
If you’d like to take a look at the Simply Be occasion range, you can find this gorgeous dress, along with plenty of others over on their website. Happy shopping!
