Now that winter is slowly becoming a distant memory, it’s time to look forward to warmer days, beer gardens, washing hanging on the line (or is that just my guilty pleasure?) and if you’re really lucky, a beach holiday or two.
Of course, I’m talking about Summer! When Island Slice asked if I’d like to sample their rum fusion cocktails, I happy obliged. Originating from the beautiful, sunny St Lucia, founder Sylvester has brought this unique concoction over to UK shores. Starting by making batches of punch using his Mums recipe, he customised this classic by adding a splash of rum and Island Spice was born.
This is far superior to the sugary, pre-mixed cocktails you may find on most supermarket shelves. Island Slice is made from fresh coconut, limes, oranges, pineapples, Caribbean Rum and tropical spices, infusing the rum and then fruit juices in order to develop depth and extra layers of flavour.
I teamed mine with plenty of ice, as instructed, and a slice of lime. The first flavour that I experienced was a kick of fruity coconut. This was followed by the subtle taste of spice with a decent hit of rum. It was incredibly fresh and moreish, without being too sickly.
At 11% volume, it’s mild enough to enjoy at leisure on a Sunday afternoon with friends and a little really does go a long way; I managed to get two tumblers of Island Slice from just one modest 200ml bottle. Ideal for BBQs, beach picnics or summer parties. Available in 1ltr (£20) and 200ml (£4.50) bottles, they also offer 2 x 200ml bottles and an Island Slice mason jar for just £10.
Unfortunately, I was sat on the sofa at home in my trusty jumper on a grey and rainy Manchester afternoon when testing out Island Slice Rum Infusion but in my mind, the flavours transported me straight to a white sandy beach in St Lucia!
